Celebrating 10 years of AstroBin

10 years ago, on the 27th of November, 2011, AstroBin was released for a public beta.

Additionally, 11 years ago on the 27th of November 2010, I sat down and wrote the first line of code for AstroBin.

I had been moving my first steps in astrophotography for a few months, and when I realized how much work went into every astrophotograph, I could not accept that fact that there wasn't a dedicated place to share this work, other than generic image hosting platforms and forums.

General-purpose image hosting platforms lacked, and still do, features that are specific to astrophotography. And forums had limitations in file size, on top of not offering a proper gallery.

I had questions regarding the potential of my equipment, that a Google search could not answer, and I wanted a dedicated database that would index astrophotograph with their relevant data, in a way that made them searchable and filterable.

I think I toyed when the idea for only a week, before deciding to get started.

Little did I know, that would be the beginning of an awesome adventure.

Today, AstroBin is my full-time job.

I am very grateful for the opportunity to be the benevolent dictator of this fantastic community! Thank you all for being on board and clear skies!
